To make these covers you will need:-

Material List

3mm hook

Some scrap yarn DK weight

Stitch Markers – available here and on Etsy

Tapestry needle

Chain – Ch

Slip stitch – SL ST

Finish off – F/O

Single crochet – SC

Double Crochet – DC

The egg covers are designed to fit Cadbury Creme Egg style eggs wrapped in foil.  If the eggs where you are come in the new plastic casing, use worsted weight yarn and a 4mm hook.

All  rounds are worked in the continuous round unless specifically stated. You may wish to use a stitch marker.

Increase – Work 2 stitches into one stitch from the previous round.

Decrease – Working over two stitches from the previous round to create one stitch.

To make a French knot:-  Wrap yarn at least twice around your needle keeping it as tight as possible.

Pass the needle through the yarn from the front to the back as close to your starting hole as possible but NOT the same hole. Slowly pull the yarn through and you will have created a French Knot.

Please note all the animals use the same basic patterns with a few additions (see separate notes)

Body

Round 1:          6SC into magic ring [Or CH2, 6SC in 1st CH from hook] (6)

Round 2:          INC in each ST around (12)

Round 3:          (SC, INC) around (18)

Round 4:          SC in each ST around (18)

Round 5:          (SC2, INC) around (24)

Round 6:          SC in each ST around (24)

Round 7:          (SC3, INC) around, (30)

Rounds 8 -13:  SC in each ST around (30

Round14:         (DEC, SC3) around (24)

Round15:         (DEC, SC2) around (18)

Fasten off, weave in loose ends

Add facial features using photos as a guide

Bunny ears x2

Round 1:         6 SC into magic ring (6) [Or CH2, 6 SC in 1st CH from hook] (6)

Round 2:         (SC, INC) around  (9)

Round 3:          SC, INC (SC2, INC) twice, SC (12)  

Round 4:          SC in each ST around (12)

Round 5:          (DEC, SC2) around (9)

Round 6:          SC in each ST around (9)

Round 7:          (DEC, SC) around (6)

Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing

Attach to each side of body near the top

With black make 2 French knots, one for each eye

Use a small amount of pink to embroider a nose.  Use the photos as a guide

Bunny’s face:  

With black make 2 French knots for each eye

Sheep’s ear (x2)

Round 1:  6 SC into magic ring (6) [Or CH2, 6 SC in 1st CH from hook] (6)

Round 2: INC in each ST around (12)

Round 3:  SC in each ST around (12)

Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing

Attach to each side of the body, near the top

Sheep’s face

Round 2: INC in each ST around (12)

Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing

Make 2 French knots for eyes (see notes)

Use a little pink to embroider a nose.  

Use the photo as a guide.

Attach to the front of the body

 Chick’s Wings (x2)

CH 6, DC in 4th CH from hook, DC in next CH, HDC in next CH, CH 1, slip stitch back into starting CH.  Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Attach to each side of the body. 

Chick’s face

With black, make 1 French knot for each eye

Use a small amount of orange and sew in a triangle shape to make beak.  Use the photos as a guide

Take 3 strands roughly 10cm long and loop them through the centre stitch on top of the Chicks head and trim to suitable height.
