When creating your own tree, it will depend on how large your polystyrene cone is.  You need to make the skirt of your tree long enough to wrap around the body of the cone so that no white shows through but also giving the tree a lovely overlay effect.

All stitches are placed in the back loop only (BLO) unless otherwise stated.

1.    CH14, HDC in 2nd ST from hook and in each ST along.

2.    CH1, turn.  HDC into the same ST as CH and into the next 9HDC.  Leave the remaining ST unworked.

3.    CH1, turn.  2HDC into the same ST as CH, 1 HDC in next.  Repeat across alternating 2HDC, 1HDC until the end.

4.    CH1, turn.  HDC in the same ST as CH and the next 9 ST leaving the remaining unworked.

Repeat rows 3 & 4 until your skirt is the desired length.  The final row should be an increase row (Row 3)

Tinsel Effect (Optional)

With a gold thread I used a SL ST the whole way along the outside of the tree to create a little embellishment on some of the trees.

Attaching the skirt

First, I wrapped my tree around my cone and secured it lightly with pins. I left a long tail and used it to lightly seam up the outside of the tree.  I then used fabric glue several spots to secure my tree.
